Scootamart Preston

A ScootaMart store in Preston has been using the quiet lockdown period to customise a Pride Ranger mobility scooter with crystals and flashing lights.

Staff at the store on Owen Street spent over 500 hours during the coronavirus pandemic creating the one-of-a-kind ‘Pride Ranger’.

Ian Jaeger of ScootaMart told Preston News: “As an essential retailer of mobility products we have remained open over the past year to service and supply our customers.

“However, as it has been quiet on the high street, rather than twiddle our thumbs our staff have put in the time and made a one-of-a-kind Pride Ranger mobility scooter to bring a smile to people’s faces in these challenging times.

“We have added over 50,000 crystals one by one, taking over 500 hours of manual labour, retro fitted and added bling to a vintage Porsche rally seat then wired in a light kit that flashes to the music beat.

“Lastly we made a trailer with matching wheels to carry the designer shopping bags.”

ScootaMart has 11 mobility stores across the North West of England and Scotland which have remained open during lockdown. The retailer provides essential products such as mobility scooters, powerchairs, wheelchairs and daily living aids. It also operates essential services such as the Motability scheme nationwide and its mobile engineers have remained available during lockdown.

In November 2020 the mobility retail sector was formally included in the government’s “essential” business list. The updated guidance groups mobility shops with other ‘essential’ health and medical services, including dental services, opticians, audiology services and osteopaths.
