RGK Wheelchairs sees TikTok video of former Paralympian demonstrating its powered handbike go viral
Sports wheelchair manufacturer RGK Wheelchairs has seen a TikTok video it released of ex-Paralympian Matt Byrne using one of its powered hand bikes go viral overnight, garnering over 50 million views and 1 million likes.
Matt, who is Specialist Mobility Advisor at RGK Wheelchairs, was seen in the video showing how to dock the Empulse StreetJet to his Tiga Sub4 wheelchair. The video’s popularity was such that the company’s TikTok account quickly grew from 400 to over 35,000 followers in a few months.
Dorian Benjamin, Sales & Marketing Manager at RGK Wheelchairs, commented to THIIS: “The revolutionary technology in the clamping system allows the StreetJet to set itself apart from the competition and caters to a wide range of requirements. We are overwhelmed with the positive feedback from this product and hopefully we can reach many people!”
The Empulse StreetJet is a powered handbike that docks to the front of an active wheelchair in one simple action using a patented one-touch clamp system and no extra parts or bracketry.
Powered by a high-performance electric system, the pull device can reach up to 20kph speed over a 50km range and is packed with personalised control features and styling options to suit every age.
The StreetJet comes with a 12″ or 16” wheel. The 12” wheel provides a tight turning circle and the shortest base length making it ideal for transportation in the boot of a car.
For outdoor adventures, the 16″ wheel cushions the user more from the shocks and vibrations that the user might experience from rougher road journeys.
Part of the Sunrise Medical group, RGK Wheelchairs designs and manufactures sports wheelchairs used by some of the world’s top athletes, including GB tennis player Jordanne Whiley, basketball player Terry Bywater, and rugby player Jamie Stead.
The company, which is based in Burntwood, Staffordshire, also produces made-to-measure wheelchairs for daily use and supplies a selection of power add-on attachments.
In recent news, RGK Wheelchairs was joined by Team GB wheelchair basketball players Anastasia Blease and Ben Leitch, rising star Alice McHaffie, and wheelchair racer Hilmy Shawwal in a fundraising fitness challenge for Spinal Research.
