Rehasense forearm walker helps fearless disabled fundraiser in Huddersfield hit £10,000 target
A fearless disabled fundraiser has completed his latest fundraising challenge using a Rehasense Server W Forearm Walker to raise money for Ruddi’s Retreat in Huddersfield which provides free caravan breaks for families with children with serious illnesses.
Stephen Collins walked from Emily Moor to Slathwaite, a total of 12.5 miles which took him 18 hours. Born with cerebral palsy in 1959, Stephen’s parents were told he would never walk. However, Stephen has always been determined to prove them wrong, and his ambition has been to raise £10,000 for Ruddi’s Retreat with four fundraisers and this is the last of those four.
His previous three fundraisers and other donations over the last year have brought in around £8,000. In April 2024 Stephen walked 7.5 miles from Slaithwaite to Castle Hill above Huddersfield, including scaling Huddersfield’s steepest street. It took him eight hours, and he raised more than £2,377, smashing his target of £1,500. He followed this up in September with a 24-hour trek around Greenhead Park which brought in a further £3,500.
The tally was boosted by almost £2,000 in February this year when he managed to walk 35 steps without his walker to honour wife Sally on their 35th wedding anniversary. He’d only ever managed two or three steps without his walker previously.

The Server W Forearm Walker by Rehasense features forearm supports with height adjustment of 75cm to 98cm (medium) and 90cm to 115cm (large) and depth adjustment (13cm range) for maximum comfort. The supports also feature an integrated hand brake and parking brake lever.
With a maximum user weight of 150kg, the Server W has been designed to be used indoors and outside. It can be folded to fit into a car for transportation and its folding design also ensures the user walks with a better posture compared to other front folding models. An easy to remove bag which clips on along with a practical small net bag are fitted as standard.
