Product of the Year 2019: Stuart Mobility
Product of the Year: Boston Chair from Repose Furniture
Justina Nurse, Managing Director of Stuart Mobility
“The Boston was officially launched in March 2018, after being previewed at the OT Show in 2017. However, like most new products, it takes time to find a position in the marketplace and for Stuart Mobility, this year the chair has proved very popular with both OTs and customers alike.
“The Boston has a unique combination of Tilt in Space and independently controlled back recline and leg elevation so that carers can constantly adjust the user’s position to relieve pressure and provide all-day comfort. Adaptable back and seat cushions, adjustable footplate, manual or electric and the chair comes in three sizes with a variety of fabrics and colours to suit any environment.
“Repose Furniture has engineered the Boston to meet the needs of semi-ambulant and non-ambulant users with a range of additional support features to modify the chair to individual needs. Ideal for those who are unable to independently manoeuvre their weight to relieve pressure build-up, the assisted movement reduces the risk of skin breakdown due to poor skin integrity, high-pressure risk or poor circulation.
“It can also support people with swallowing problems by allowing them to be positioned optimally for food to be swallowed, for example, individuals with neurological conditions such as MND, and can also be very useful for those with low blood pressure to alter their position to reduce the impact of changes in pressure e.g. postural hypotension.
“Stuart Mobility has sold the Boston to both care and nursing homes as well as private homes and it’s gaining a growing fan base. Above all, this chair, for me, is just so comfortable and supportive.”
