Permobil announces partnership with world’s first e-sport team of differently abled people
Wheelchair manufacturer Permobil has announced a partnership with the e-sports team Lilmix.Para so that it can contribute to its vision of a good and inclusive online environment that counteracts bullying online.
The team of five young men living with disabilities plan to visit the biggest e-sport competitions in the world, with the first being Dreamhack Winter in Jönköping, Sweden.
An important aspect for the team members, who all have the same severe muscle-wasting disease Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), is being seen and heard, as well as realizing their dreams in e-sports.
The team’s vision is to compete with the world’s leaders in e-sports and to be at the forefront of good online behavior.
Sigge Stengård, one of the team members, started playing and building his profile in e-sports together with his father Martin as a coach.
In May 2021, the unique team Lilmix.Para was established with all members living with different degrees of disabilities. Together, they created a common approach for training, inspiration and competition based on each team members’ individual DMD situation.
Lilimix.Para also want to be role models, showing others within e-sports how people should treat each other when they play.
Martinus Rönnerman, Vice President of Communications at Permobil commented: “Permobil is very proud of the team Lilmix.Para and it is so inspiring to follow their development which really shows that nothing is impossible.
“For the boys in the team, personalised adapted equipment is a prerequisite for being able to play at a high level.
“With this collaboration, Permobil also wants to contribute to Lilmix.Para’s vision of a good and inclusive online environment that counteracts bullying online.
“The guys are absolutely fantastic and train on Counter Strike four times a week. It gives them such joy in life and a great sense of belonging and team spirit.”
A leader in healthcare solutions for power and manual wheelchairs, seating and positioning products, and power assist, Permobil recently strengthened its product portfolio and competitiveness in the market after entering into an agreement to acquire light wheelchair manufacturer, Panthera.
