People First Mobility

Lincolnshire-based People First Mobility is in the running to be named one of the best rural businesses in the UK after being shortlisted for a regional Rural Business Award.

The mobility retailer will battle it out against fellow rural businesses, entrepreneurs and enterprises from across the region for a place at the national final, which will be held virtually in October 2021, with the National Final taking place early next year.

Speaking after being shortlisted for the award, Karen Sheppard, Director of People First Mobility, commented: “During such a hard year in retail, to be able to help those in the rural community and make sure they still received outstanding service and help from us when they needed it has been rewarding.

“And to get recognised for this, and to be a finalist, has just given us an extra boost to keep going through these strange times.”

People First Mobility are based in Skegness on the east coast of England. Last year, Karen, who founded the business in the early 2000’s, featured in a list of top 100 female entrepreneurs, which recognised small businesses inspiring their peers and communities through their businesses and wider activities.

Karen said that her business prides itself on its excellent service and customer care, offering free home demonstrations and free delivery locally to its customers.

She added: “Some of our customers rely on their mobility scooters as a means of being able to get to the local shops. We also stock a whole range of helpful aids for in and out the home.”

Organised by rural business for rural business, the Rural Business Awards 2021/2022, in partnership with Amazon, will mark the Awards’ seventh year of celebrating the success of businesses across the UK’s rural economy.

There are winners in 13 categories – ranging from Best Rural Start-up and Best Rural Diversification Project; through to Best Rural Professional Services Business and Best Rural Innovation – decided by an independent panel of judges drawn from the rural business sector, rural public sector agencies, and rural charitable organisations.

Director and Co-Founder of The Rural Business Awards, Jemma Clifford, added: “We are excited to celebrate the 2021/2022 awards after such a challenging year for businesses.

“We are passionate about creating a nurturing environment where rural businesses can develop, and this starts by showcasing the great work they do.

“On behalf of everyone at the Rural Business Awards, we want to say well done to People First Mobility and wish them luck ahead of the regional finals.”
