Unique Mobility shop front in Plymouth

Aiming to highlight its broad range of services to occupational therapists, physios, case managers, nurses, carers and other healthcare professionals, South-West based mobility dealer Unique Mobility is bringing together various suppliers and hosting its first ‘Professionals Open Day’.

Taking place at the mobility dealer’s Plymouth branch on April 3rd 2019, the day will see various suppliers showcasing and demonstrating their products to healthcare professionals, as well as Matt Hamilton from Accora providing CPD training and a free lunch for attendees.

Discussing the decision to run its first Professionals Open Day, Barry Reeve, Adaptations & Marketing Manager at Unique Mobility, told THIIS: “Unique Mobility is the largest mobility and rehabilitation dealer in the South-West, with three branches and over 20 staff ranging from engineers, sales advisors and products specialists – all with varying skills and areas of expertise. It’s very difficult for us to advertise the vast amount of services we offer to a large audience of healthcare professionals effectively.

“This open day has been on our agenda for a while now and it’s brilliant to be in a position to finally have a date in the diary. We’re hoping that it will allow local professionals to understand exactly why we are the largest dealer in the area and have the confidence to call us whether it’s a simple ramp solution or complex configured seating system.”

Noting the response from professionals invited to attend, Barry said: “There seems to be a really good response; we’re tracking who is opening our e-invites and who is responding and it seems to be going really well.

“We’ve got some demonstrations with groups of professionals in the diary too which we’re handing out printed invitations to and we’re getting a really good response.

Unique Mobility says confirmed manufacturers exhibiting will include Etac, Topro, FormAlign, Sunrise Medical, Quantum Rehab, Permobil, Enable Access, EasyStand, and Invacare.

Highlighting the fragmented nature of the industry, Barry emphasised the open day will be a chance to attract professionals from across the various sectors of healthcare.

“The healthcare and independent living industry has so many complex divisions and retailers like us are constantly driving to offer the largest selection of product ranges – seating, ramp and access solutions, powered mobility, home adaptations, car adaptations and more,” he explained.

“For a retailer to have a large market share in all divisions within their geographical catchment area would be difficult as not all professionals specialise in all areas of independent living. So, an open day is a great way to involve TVN’s, OT’s, Physios, D/N’s and Care professionals into one location, allowing them to explore their areas of interest for themselves.”

Covering all of Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset, the company was started by Ian Bellamy in 2002. In 2018, the company underwent a rebrand, merging two stores – Plymouth Mobility Centre and Launceston Mobility Centre – under one name and expanding its operations into new areas of healthcare, including paediatrics.

Commenting on the company’s extensive reach in the South-West, Barry finished: “With the South-West being challenging geographically, we’re finding that manufacturers that offer a solution direct to customer are now using us as their go-to retailer to pass their lead onto and we will then provide the assessment and handover for them.

“Advertising that professionals can call us to provide a solution that is often quicker than going direct to the manufacturer seems to be one of the areas that is well received.”

The open day will take place from 9:30am to 3:30pm at Unit 1 – 2 Drake Mill Business Park, Estover, Plymouth, PL6 7PS.
