NRS Healthcare provides wheelchairs to help with vaccine rollout in North Yorkshire
One of the major Integrated Community Equipment Service (ICES) providers, NRS Healthcare has recently helped a North Yorkshire medical practice to deliver COVID-19 vaccines by providing wheelchairs to residents.
The NRS Healthcare North Yorkshire Wheelchair Services team provided wheelchairs to Pickering Medical practice, which has been selected as a hub site to deliver coronavirus vaccinations to vulnerable patients. The medical practice covers residents in Pickering, Hemsley, Terrington and Kirbymoorside.
To ensure vulnerable residents were able to get to their appointments, NRS Healthcare has been providing wheelchairs to assist with the practice’s vaccination rollout programme. The wheelchairs allow the most vulnerable people to receive a vaccination without being concerned about any mobility issues.
The ICES provider told THIIS that it has donated in excess of 30 wheelchairs so far to five different vaccinations hubs in North Yorkshire: Scarborough, Filey, Malton, Harrogate and Pickering.
NRS Healthcare was asked by the commissioners of Vale of York Wheelchair Services if it could rise to the challenge to provide wheelchairs at short notice to the various vaccination centres. It confirmed that it delivered the chairs to the sites within 48 hours of the initial request.
The provider says that it is hugely important that it can help in any way possible with the mammoth task of vaccinating the population of the Vale of York.
Rachel Clearly, NRS Healthcare Wheelchair Service Clinical Lead for Vale of York, commented: “The Vale of York Wheelchair services are really proud to be able to help the successful of the roll out of the first COVID19 vaccinations in the district. By providing wheelchairs at short notice, it allows the most vulnerable in our community to attend without worry or need to bring wheelchairs with them.”
According to wheelchair services provider, commissioners at the North Yorkshire Wheelchair Services have expressed their gratitude for NRS Healthcare’s assistance.
In line with guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), older care home residents, their carers, over-80s, and frontline health and social care workers are currently receiving COVID-19 vaccines as they are deemed to be the highest priority groups.
However, the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) has stressed the need to ensure no eligible workers in the healthcare industry are overlooked, with many mobility retailers and providers working with vulnerable people but not within the public sector.
According to the association, of which NRS Healthcare is a member, it estimates that its members have over 100,000 face-to-face interactions with patients with long-term conditions, disabled and elderly people each week.
