e-learning zoom webinar

Hosted by the Digital Health and Care Alliance (DHACA), an upcoming webinar will hear from a panel of commissioners and project leaders from across the UK about the role of online advice and how it can maximise independence.

Entitled ‘Reflections on person-centred advice about AT’, the webinar will take place on 24th of February at 9:45am and is being organised by the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF).

A range of major service providers from across the UK will speak about their experiences in providing online practical advice about assistive technology.

Speakers will highlight the importance of reaching older and disabled people, and their carers, and the role of self-assessment as a solution to fast adoption of assistive technology solutions at home.

The panel, chaired by DHACA’s Charles Lowe, includes Alison Docherty, Project Manager for the EquipU partnership in Scotland, Chris Humphreys, Head of Adult and Community Services at Newport City Council, Rachel Russell from Calderdale Council and Co-Author of RCOT’s 2019 ‘Adaptations without Delay’ report, and Kate Bowman, Prevention and Information Lead for InformationNOW at Newcastle City Council.

The webinar is particularly relevant as online impartial advice that can lead to self-funded purchasing of simple aids for delivery at home has come into its own during the pandemic, cutting through waiting lists and ensuring that limited resources are deployed for those with complex needs.

A panel of speakers from the DLF’s AskSARA projects around the UK will also discuss maximising independence through online advice during the webinar.

The AskSARA online self-assessment tool helps users identify appropriate mobility and independent living solutions to meet their needs. In November, EquipU and the DLF launched a joint version of the free online AskSARA tool for over two million residents across Scotland.

The webinar will include a Q&A session following the panel’s presentations.
