Parkgate Mobility Pontefract

Having been open for just five weeks, Parkgate Mobility’s latest branch in the historic market town of Pontefract in West Yorkshire was broken into on the 14th January 2020, with several large mobility scooters stolen.

Opened in mid-December 2019, the Pontefract outlet is the 18th store in the growing Parkgate Mobility shop portfolio, which covers Yorkshire, the West Midlands, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The launch of the new store also marked the first mobility store in Pontefract, with Parkgate Mobility’s Owner Steve Holland saying he realised there was a great need for the shop in the area and that “it is an honour to be so warmly welcomed by the Pontefract Civic Society” during the shop’s launch.

Just over a month on from first opening its doors however, the store was targeted by thieves who gained entry in the early hours of Tuesday 14th and made off with several large mobility scooters.

Speaking with the Pontefract and Castleford Express, Helen Sorrell, Pontefract Store Manager for Parkgate Mobility, told the newspaper that local customers have been supportive following the incident.

“We are open as normal, it’s sad though because I had a gentleman come in today wanting to buy a large scooter but we’ve only got two in, when we usually have a choice of several,” she told Pontefract and Castleford Express.

“I hope the culprits get found because it’s just not nice to do this to the people who need the product.

“For vulnerable people scooters are their means of getting around and meeting people or going to the library and church and keeping life normal for them.

“Using a scooter also keeps them active and mobile so it’s sad they should be denied that.”

Following the incident, West Yorkshire Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward with information by calling 101 and using the crime reference number 13200022840.
