MWG Manual imageA new, educational smartphone app that informs users about different aspects of their manual wheelchair has been launched, which includes tools and resources to guide users through the wheelchair selection, delivery and maintenance process.

Designed to give wheelchair users greater mobility and independence, the United Spinal Association and the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology at the University of Pittsburgh, in the USA, co-developed the app

Proving a valuable resource to manual wheelchair users, the My Wheelchair Guide (MWG Manual) app helps disabled people choose the right wheelchair, provides advice relating to wheelchair use and maintenance, and has a helpful Q&A section.

Other helpful resources within the MWG Manual include: self-assessment and maintenance checklists; customisable to-do lists; wheelchair skills videos; illustrations on wheelchair types, parts and accessories; health considerations relating to wheelchairs; and the ability to take notes within the app using text, pictures or voice recordings.

The MWG Manual wheelchair mobile app is available for download from Google Play and the Apple App Store by searching “MWG Manual”.

Formed in 1946, the United Spinal Association is a not-for-profit membership organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Americans with spinal cord injuries and disorders.
