Hacker scam online scammer

The Express online has revealed a potential scam in the mobility industry concerning substantially low-price mobility scooters advertised to elderly and vulnerable customers online.

According to the news outlet, online advertisements have been found advertising folding, electric three-wheeled mobility scooters at a cost of £174 ($219).

The advertised product caught the attention of John Roberts, who was close to placing an order for the device after placing the item in his basket before reconsidering, concerned the deal was too good to be true.

As reported by the Express, the website links for the low-priced mobility scooters advertised to UK customers pointed to domains-based in the USA, primarily in Chicago and Colorado. In addition, a day after John spotted the advertised products, the adverts disappeared, with the Express highlighting that when it tried to click on the scooter, it was denied access.

Contacting the national news provider with the intention of warning others, John told the Express: “It’s so easy to get carried away. I hope this experience can help protect others.”

With even the lowest priced mobility scooters starting from around £400, the Express’ consumer champion Maisha Frost warned: “If something seems too good to be true, then it usually is.”
