Alzheimers Society Cupcake Day Medequip

Now in its third year of partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society, Medequip has revealed it has raised well over £40,000 in total to help the charity conduct lifesaving research and provide life-changing support.

Praising the lengths its team has gone through over the years to raise money for the UK’s leading dementia charity, the community equipment specialist says it had no idea of the scale and scope of the adventures its people would be willing to undertake.

Activities carried out by Medequip employees include staff abseiling off the ArcelorMittal Orbit, a 114.5m high sculpture and observation tower in London’s Olympic Park; cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, along with other expeditions on two wheels; sky diving; a Tough Mudder, as well as a number of half marathons; a Three Peaks expedition; and the Great South Run.

In addition, the company’s motivated team have competed in a number of fundraising sports challenges, including a five-a-side football team and a 72-hole golf competition.

Alzheimers Society John O Groats MedequipUnderlining the importance of corporate fundraising to the Society, Joe Swan, Regional Corporate Partnerships Executive at the Alzheimer’s Society, commented: “We are hugely grateful for all of the support given to us by Medequip. Just as an example, £40,000 could pay for 528 people to attend our Singing for the Brain group over the course of a year. Thank you, Medequip!”

According to the company, it has seen significant support from across its network of depots as well, with individuals in the organisation arranging various events, including cupcake days, tuck shops, sweepstakes and car boot sales.

Additionally, Medequip’s Promotions Team has kept the theme alive at events across the country, states the company, continuously requesting donations for giveaways.

Beyond daring fundraising activities and continuous charitable events, supporting the Alzheimer’s Society has also led to some integral changes within the company, with 250 of Medequip’s staff trained as Dementia Friends and one Dementia Friends champion qualified to deliver training to others

The support comes as the Alzheimer’s Society warns of the rapid increases in the cost of dementia care expected in the next 20 years, rising to an estimated £94 billion.

Ahead of the general election of the 12th, the dementia charity is calling for dementia care to be funded like other public services, such as the NHS and education, and removing the cost burden from families.
