Motability Scheme to add greener mobility solutions to its fleet thanks to new partnership

Motability Operations has this week signed a new agreement with Kia Worldwide to develop more inclusive and sustainable mobility solutions, helping make sure wheelchair users can stay mobile and independent as the UK moves to electric.
Together the firms are looking to bring the electric Kia PV5 to the UK on the Motability Scheme.
The PV5 will join the Scheme from early 2026 as a passenger vehicle, with locally converted wheelchair accessible versions and a fully integrated made-in-plant Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) to follow.
Building on the Motability Scheme’s eVITA concept, which has helped shape industry thinking about designing accessibility into electric vehicles, the PV5 shows how accessibility can be built in from the very start of vehicle design.
It is also hoped that the collaboration with Kia will explore smart charging and vehicle-to-grid technology to help reduce running costs for customers and support the wider move to greener transport.
Together with the Motability Foundation, the Motability Scheme states that it has invested £120 million each year in supporting and lowering costs for disabled people who need wheelchair accessible vehicles and continue to work closely with the UK converter sector to deliver for disabled people across the country.
