Mobility Scotland has confirmed a new distribution partnership with VELA, bringing the Danish-manufacturer’s mobility and seating solutions to central Scotland’s private and public sector customers.

Established in 2006, the Glasgow-based mobility retailer has grown consistently over the years, expanding into key specialist areas within the mobility and assistive tech industry including specialist seating, pressure care, motion furniture and recently introducing its in-house stairlift and bathing division.

According to Billy Finnie, Operations Manager of Mobility Scotland, the addition of the VELA range “fits magnificently within our value proposition and we’re super excited at making a big difference to people’s mobility within the home or work environment.”

Boasting Scandinavian style and function, VELA’s ergonomically-designed chairs are produced in Denmark in collaboration with OTs and end-users, with the range designed to meet the need of those with temporary or chronic conditions.

Discussing the decision to take on distribution of the Danish company’s core range for the central Scotland area, Billy told THIIS: “We very much look forward to embracing Vela’s outstanding products and introducing them to our core range within our already industry-leading specialised seating and assistive technology portfolio.

“We now have outstanding options which will enable mobilisation and transferring, increase physical reach and offer the ability to do everyday tasks, in the kitchen, laundry, bathroom and lounge easily and safely.  We absolutely love this and we love delivering world-class solutions that inspire our customers and empower our people to keep delivering value.”

Highlighting that the retailer has been in discussions with numerous suppliers in the sector, Billy said it was the energy and passion of the VELA team and its UK business manager Chris Marshall that won the Scottish mobility equipment specialist over.

“Chris shared his aspirations and his enthusiasm for not only the product range and the company he represents but also his driving desire to bring the products to Scotland and see them being maximised to their potential across the sectors,” continued Billy.

“We absolutely believe we can achieve this and not only be successful commercial partners but great brand ambassadors for Vela and their product.”

According to Mobility Scotland, the company will engage with healthcare professionals and its B2B channel to popularise the range throughout central Scotland.

“Our strategic business model will be implemented across our business-to-business channel, of which we’re well placed amongst our growing network of OTs, care Homes, charitable funding organisations, community support groups and healthcare organisations,” explained Billy.

“Our jewel in the crown, however, is status as preferred suppliers on the Equipu framework which will ensure many more OTs across all the local authorities who feed into the largest equipment loan store in Europe will be much more aware of the VELA range of products.”

Equipu is a service responsible for supplying and installing a range of disability equipment supplied by health and social work services to people living at home across Glasgow County Council and five other local authorities.

Mobility Scotland also confirmed it plans to invest in raising awareness of the VELA collection of products across its B2C channel.

Commenting on the new partnership with Mobility Scotland, Vela UK Business Manager Chris Marshall added: “What made our decision was the not only Billy’s enthusiasm but Mobility Scotland’s focus on customer service and the value this adds. This is very important to VELA as we are very much customer service-orientated.

He finished: “I’m looking forward to training Mobility Scotland’s assessors so that they are able to represent VELA and assist all the enquiries that they will have.

“Our solutions are suitable for many applications so it’s imperative that all staff members fully understand the VELA ranges to enable them to advise with confidence to enhance an individual’s life. We are looking forward to working alongside Billy and his team throughout 2020 and building a strong relationship for the future”
