Mobility retailer takes “difficult decision” to close its South West store due to increasing running costs
Devon-based mobility dealer More Than Mobility has announced the closure of its Sidmouth store on Friday 29th of March 2019, citing steep rising rent costs as the reason for the closure.
More Than Mobility sells a variety of mobility and disability aids, such as mobility scooters, powerchairs, manual wheelchairs, adjustable beds, incontinence products, stairlifts and daily living aids.
As well as the Sidmouth store, the dealer also has shops in Plymouth – the nearest location to the Sidmouth store – and Northampton.
Speaking about the decision to close the store, Jemma Dunn, Managing Director of More Than Mobility Sidmouth, told THIIS: “Unfortunately, we’ve had to close our Sidmouth store due to rising rent and rate costs. The lease is due to finish in the next month and as the Sidmouth store has not been selling as well as our other stores and with the costs going up, we decided that we would shut that store.
“This was a difficult decision for us and it wasn’t something that we’ve taken lightly. We did look for other premises in Sidmouth. However, there are a lot of spaces that are very big in Sidmouth and there are a lot of spaces that are very small in Sidmouth, but there was nothing really of the right size in the Sidmouth area. So, we are taking the difficult decision to shut the store at the end of March.”
However, the managing director stressed that the rest of the business is running as usual and customers can still go to its Plymouth and Northampton stores or shop online.
Jemma added: “We wanted to give our customers as much notice as possible about the closure.”
As part of its closure, the Sidmouth store is also running a closing down sale, offering up to 25 percent off some of its mobility products.
For customers with warranty issues, More Than Mobility Sidmouth said that it will honour this and that the Plymouth store will be able to handle any existing warranty issues.
