Mobility retailer invests in digital personal development to “stay one step ahead”
Highlighting the importance of staying up-to-date with digital technology, People First Mobility’s Karen Sheppard has been awarded The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award’s (iDEA) bronze badge, having successfully developed her digital skills and learning.
A free international programme that helps participants develop digital, enterprise and employability skills through completing online modules, iDEA is the digital and enterprise equivalent of The Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Topics covered by Karen included cyber security, cloud computing, growth hacking, social media, customer relationship management, web development, data visualisation, coding, GIF making and graphic design.
“Completing all these skills sets will benefit People First Mobility by allowing us to not stand still and put different skills into place to continue to grow and adapt to the changing world of business,” she told THIIS.
Karen emphasised the value of undertaking additional educational activities and staying in touch with the rapidly evolving, digital landscape.
“To achieve this award is an accomplishment personally, both as a mature learner and also after having chemo and the ongoing medication for cancer. A side effect of going through that process is that the brain isn’t as good as it was so to keep on the learning path and give the brain things to do is a way of keeping it healthy and active,” she continued.
“Also, it’s making sure that in the world of fast-growing technology and digital advances, I can stay one step ahead and always be looking at ways to grow.”
Featuring in January 2018’s Retailer Spotlight, Karen and the team at People First Mobility have won a raft of awards over the year, including recently become a finalist for Skegness Business Awards’ Customer Care award, having won it the previous.
Now working towards completing the rest of the badges to achieve the Bronze Badge Champion, Karen is also working on the next level of the programme, silver.
“To find the time to complete the badges has needed time management skills and dedication,” she finished.
“Being in business is always about learning and adapting and developing, both in personal skills and workplace skills.
“For anyone wishing to advance their knowledge or refresh their knowledge, I would highly recommend the IDEA badges.”
