Dolphin Mobility Yorkshire and Cumbria has welcomed Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock’s announcement to provide a £3.5 billion cash injection to prop up the social care system.

The cash injection is set to help the UK’s “collapsed” social care system, which has been described as “unsustainable” with a “whole number of injustices” affecting society’s most vulnerable people. The extra money is expected to be made available in the next spending review.

The UK Government hopes this additional funding will help to speed up provision of care in the community and make it quicker to make more domestic properties accessible for disabled and elderly people to remain at home.

Welcoming this announcement, Gareth Watkinson, Managing Director of Dolphin Mobility Yorkshire and Cumbria, said: “This is welcome news for all in the homecare industry.  As someone who is very much on the front line, we are well aware of the incredible benefits homecare adaptations such as stairlifts, hoists and bathlifts can have for the elderly and disabled people who want remain in their home for as long as possible.

“It is very satisfying to see the pleasure, joy and gratitude on the faces of the residents when we have installed the various adaptations and equipment into their homes and see the renewed freedom such adaptations provide them.

“Appropriate and timely delivery of homecare has a direct and indirect impact upon many other elements of health and social care provision that while any additional funding is always welcome, equally as important is the management and oversight of community equipment provision and we hope, those in authority, will ensure that a holistic approach, including things like the right specification and speed of delivery is given more prevalence than just purchase prices.”

He added that Dolphin Mobility makes the user’s personal circumstances and budgets the top priorities when it comes to choosing the right product, stating that it proves the best value for money for the mobility dealer, the clients and council collectively.

Part of the Dolphin Group, Dolphin Mobility Yorkshire and Cumbria is an independent lift and hoisting specialist covering Cumbria, East and North Yorkshire. The company has a wide product range on offer, including stairlifts, step lifts, ceiling hoists, homelifts and ramping products.
