Rehacare 2019 MediSmart Technologies

With more than 38,000 attendees visiting the halls of Rehacare this year, British-company MediSmart Technologies has highlighted receiving considerable interest in its revolutionary riser recliner mattress despite the looming presence of Brexit.

Taking place between the 18th and 21st September in Düsseldorf, a number of British suppliers exhibited at this year’s Rehacare in search of reaching global distributors and expanding export ambitions.

Making its debut at this year’s Rehacare was MediSmart Technologies’ MicroCell Companion, a patented micro cell slim alternating air mattress designed to fit any reclining chair.

Exhibiting in the British Pavilion amongst other UK companies, David Beavis, Sales Director of MediSmart Technologies, told THIIS that the show proved to be fruitful for the manufacturer, with visitors to the company’s stand keen to find out more about the company’s solutions.

“As a UK manufacturer, we were very pleased with the tremendous amount of interest of our innovative dynamic, hybrid and seating pressure care systems-especially the MicroCell Companion ultra-low-profile surface to retrofit onto rise and recline chairs,” he said.

“This innovative system was certainly a talking point and we picked up a large amount of enquiries from all over the world as well as from UK distributors.”

Discussing why the product proved to be so popular, David continued: “Well, because it addresses a need that has been expressed to us with regard to many patients/service users using their rise/recline chairs 24/7 as a bed and therefore not always on an appropriate ultra-low support surface.

“As an example, one major distributor from further afield told me that his boss had instructed him specifically to come to our stand and look and try out the MicroCell Companion after reading the PR section of this system in THIIS magazine!”

This year’s Rehacare came in the midst of the ongoing Brexit saga, with many suppliers in the UK questioning what effect the current political stalemate would have on trade discussions.

According to David, Brexit did not dominate conversations on the day however, echoing the sentiments of many UK companies that reported enjoying considerable interest from visitors, despite trading uncertainty between the UK and the EU.

“I suggested to my fellow colleagues that we should set up a “Brexit Bingo” to see how long it would take before someone brought up the subject,” commented David.

“In my case, it wasn’t until 2-45 pm that the word Brexit was mentioned-so I lost the prize and had to buy the German beers that night!”

Following the success of its Rehacare appearance, MediSmart Technologies will return to Dusseldorf for Medica in November, again exhibiting in the Great Britain Pavilion, as well as having a presence at this year’s OT Show at Birmingham’s NEC.
