Medequip successfully retains Birmingham Community Equipment Loan Service contract
Community equipment services specialists Medequip has announced that it has successfully retained the Birmingham Community Equipment Loan Service contract, continuing its long-standing partnership with Birmingham City Council and Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board (ICB).
Medequip has delivered the service since April 2013 and most recently retained the contract in 2020. The new contract will commence on 1 April 2027 for an initial five-year term, with the option to extend for a further five years.
The Birmingham Community Equipment Loan Service supports people to live as independently as possible in their own homes by providing essential equipment that assists with daily living. Prescribed by health and social care professionals, Medequip delivers, installs, maintains, collects and recycles equipment, helping residents remain safe and independent at home while enabling health and social care services to operate effectively.
The new contract will build on this strong foundation, with an increased focus on service development, innovation and long-term sustainability. Medequip will continue to invest in its Birmingham Service Centre to support future demand, while maximising the recycling and reuse of community equipment to deliver value for money. A programme of continuous improvement will also run throughout the life of the contract, helping the service evolve in line with the changing needs of Birmingham residents and the wider health and social care system.

The contract retention reflects Medequip’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality community equipment services, supporting independent living and improving outcomes for residents and communities across Birmingham.
