Medequip sponsors rugby league
Steve Smith, Medequip’s General Manager (North East) with Tony Bowling of Farrar Bamforth Associates, a Wakefield Trinity superfan who introduced Medequip to the club.

Community equipment services provider, Medequip, has announced that the company will serve as principal sponsor for Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation’s new Wheelchair Rugby League side, launched last week.

The firm has stated that it is proud to be involved with this emerging sport, which will form part of the Rugby League World Cup main event for the first time ever later this year.

Medequip is committed to supporting people to keep them independent, and partnering with what is billed as one of the most inclusive sports of all matches this philosophy perfectly, its spokesperson has said, particularly as Wheelchair Rugby League encourages able-bodied people to compete too, and both men and women play in the same team.

Steve Smith, Medequip’s General Manager for the North East Region, commented that it is clear there are benefits to both parties.

“Wheelchair services are an integral part of many of our contracts, and this sponsorship provides a perfect fit in terms of our corporate social responsibility strategy,” he stated.

“We’re also hoping we can become more involved in the sport with our user groups too.”

Following the successful launch of the Wheelchair Rugby League side last week, the Foundation is looking for ways to take its sides to the next level.

Craig Shepherd, Head of Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation added: “We are delighted to have finally put pen to paper and confirm Medequip as our Wheelchair RL side’s principal sponsor.

“They join us at a really exciting time for the Foundation – creating our wheelchair side in 2021 and joining forces with Medequip will help to progress the sport even further.”

Medequip has recently been trialling electric vehicles in and around Rochester, Gillingham, Chatham and the Hoo Peninsula as the company looks to transform community equipment services delivery across the UK.
