LUCI+Air monitorLUCI, the US firm that manufactured the smart sensor system of the same name for power wheelchairs, has launched a real-time smart air cushion pressure monitor that aims to take the guesswork out of air cushion inflation.

LUCI+Air tells the user when their cushion is properly inflated, as well as sharing information about how much time the user spends sitting, and how often they are off-loading from their cushion.

Providing accurate monitoring and continuous, effortless tracking the patent-pending LUCI+Air works with both an air-filled cushion and the MyLuci app to display the data an end user needs.

The monitor helps the user to manage the user’s skin, enabling them to create offloading targets, set reminders and track their progress.

Features include accurate, personalized “time-in-seat” data with the ability to monitor the cushion’s inflation level, every minute, even when the end users needs to turn off their chair.LUCI MONITOR

The lightweight monitor features hardware auditory and visual alerts with user-controlled secure sharing options.

Protected against water and dust, the monitor has an easy one-button setup and uses less power than even the battery indicator on a wheelchair, according to LUCI, with no batteries necessary.

Phone notifications can be set up to let the end user know if their cushion pressure changes and the MyLUCI app gives the user the choice to securely share the information with specific members of their care team.

LUCI+Air works with almost all air-filled cushions, including single-valve cushions, or multi-valve cushions that can be set with the valve open.

After installing LUCI+Air, users can open the MyLuci app to access an unprecedented level of accurate, continuous data.

The MyLuci app also gives the rider the choice to securely share that information with specific members of their care team.

Peter Knapp, Chief Operating Officer for LUCI exclusively told THIIS: “LUCI+Air is an exciting extension of our revolutionary technology platform for the seating and mobility market.

“With LUCI product configurations for the Permobil, Sunrise Medical, ROVI and Amy Systems brands, LUCI’s technology is already widely available for most power wheelchair drivers in the U.S.

“We are thrilled with the aggressive outreach and interest we’ve seen for bringing LUCI to the UK market, and we have begun discussions to make that a reality as soon as possible.”

According to LUCI, the monitor will be available to current LUCI users soon, and it has teased more announcements about LUCI seating products later this year.

Since its launch last year, LUCI, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, has received much acclaim; it was named one of TIME Magazine’s ‘Best Inventions of 2020’ under the ‘Accessibility’ category that same year.

The invention is the brainchild of Grammy-nominated songwriter Barry Dean, LUCI’s Founder and CEO, whose 19-year-old daughter Katherine has cerebral palsy and has used a wheelchair her entire life.
