Loyal team member bucks employment trends after celebrating 30th year with cane manufacturer
On Friday 1st March, Somerset-based walking stick specialists Classic Canes held a celebratory party for dedicated employee team member Valerie Manley’s 30th year with the family firm, going against research highlighting the average length of employment in Britain.
In 2015, a study by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) revealed that British workers are likely to work a minimum of six companies during their working lives, changing jobs on average approximately every eight years, with at least one job change coming by way of redundancy.
Having spent three decades working as a warehouse assistant with the family company, packing and dispatching walking sticks to the company’s customers around the world, Valerie’s length of service with the cane supplier is a departure from the norm.
Discussing the anniversary, Charlotte Gillan, Managing Director of Classic Canes, commented: “We are very grateful to Valerie for three decades of hard work, loyalty and lots of fun. She is at the core of our team and a much-loved member of staff.”
To commemorate the occasion, Classic Canes’ directors presented Valerie with an engraved crystal vase, a bouquet of flowers and a long weekend away for two at a luxury hotel.
Valerie Manley said: “I have really enjoyed my thirty years at Classic Canes and seeing how the business has grown and changed in that time. I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.”
