Invacare SMOOV one with wheelchair

Invacare has launched its SMOOV One power assist device, boosting its power add-on portfolio with the sleek, compact new model from power add-on specialist brand Alber.

An emerging and rapidly growing area of the mobility market, power add-ons for manual wheelchairs are proving increasingly popular amongst wheelchair users looking for an extra boost, providing attractive cross and upsell opportunities for mobility retailers.

The new electric power assist drive unit for active wheelchairs offers additional power and performance to wheelchair users, enjoying a top speed of 10km/h and a powerful drive wheel capable of travel up to 20km distance, according to the company.

Ideal for those travelling longer distances, the device can maintain a constant speed and is operated by a Bluetooth hand control unit that conveniently attaches to the chair, as well as featuring a USB‐C socket for charging purposes to assist active individuals who are always on the go.

Weighing just 7.2kg and boasting a compact, sleek aesthetic, the SMOOV One has been designed to be quick & easy to attach to a manual wheelchair says the company, as well as being convenient to transport with an integrated carry handle.

The power add-on features hands‐free dynamic driving, with a flexible 360-degree drive wheel providing extra power when needed and can also travel over most types of surfaces, including maintaining a constant speed up slopes of 16 percent, confirmed Invacare.

Designed and manufactured in Germany by power add-on specialist Alber, which Invacare acquired in 2004 with its multi-million-pound acquisition of Domus in 2004, the company says the extra power and performance of the power add-on is ideal to help users avoid fatigue or hand cramps on longer journeys.

Earlier in July, Invacare announced plans to launch the SMOOV One in North America as the organisation continues to focus attention on its growing mobility division across the pond.

Invacare’s new release is the latest in rising activity in the power add-on market, with mobility retailer and distributor Recare announcing it has taken over the exclusive distribution rights to Benoit Systems’ power add-on range at the beginning of July.
