Karma Medical embraces technological innovation with the appointment of its new CEO
Richard S.N. Chang has said that he is looking forward to championing technological innovation as the new CEO of Taiwanese wheelchair manufacturer, Karma Medical Products.
A spokesperson for Karma Medical said: “Richard is a familiar face to the team since he already has experience and knowledge from working in different departments at KARMA in previous years.
“With his deep understanding of KARMA’s ethos and goals, we look forward to working together with Richard.”
For the past 20 years, Richard has worked for several different industries, including consumer products, Telecom, and medical devices. Before coming back to Taiwan, Richard had been designing innovative mobility devices for a company in the Silicon Valley.
Karma Medical was founded in 1987 and was the creator of Taiwan’s first lightweight aluminium wheelchair model.
Richard first began working with Karma Medical in 2004 for 12 years after moving to Chia Yi, where the firm is headquartered. He worked in various departments at the company, including global sales, marketing, product planning, and also R&D.
On his decision to return back to the company as its new CEO Richard said: “I admire and appreciate Karma’s core values, which are integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
“I have the passion to market products which will benefit society. And for me, I think Karma products fit these principles.”
Richard said that he is excited about what Karma can offer, particularly as it aims to deliver “affordable high quality designed products” coupled with a high customer service level for people using its products.
“In the near future, we will also bring some innovative features including new technology-like artificial intelligence, something that can enhance the service quality and also to help the user understand their products and maintain them,” he said.
Speaking about his plans for Karma, Richard commented: “We want to first admire and appreciate the local culture, local demand, but also deliver a very high standard product with nice design and good service.”
He also added that he is appreciative of the precise position that Karma Mobility has in the UK and Ireland as the exclusive distributor of its ranges, particularly as specialists in lightweight mobility.
“I think Karma Mobility brings a new segment to fulfil that demand instead of just offering additional products to the market. That this is one thing they have done very well.
“I believe in the near future with technology innovation, Karma Mobility will help to introduce a new generation of products such as the EVO Altus and EVO Lectus that will benefit the user.”
Karma Mobility was established in the UK in 1999 and is headed up by Managing Director Mark Duffield. As specialists in the wheelchair market the firm is committed to its trade-only model and championing assessment-led retail.
Last September, Karma Mobility launched its new website to showcase its range of lightweight and powered wheelchairs while focusing on directing enquiries to retail partners.
