Jorvik Tricycles
The de-restriction service will enable tricycle users with limited mobility to tackle hills and longer journeys with ease

Electric tricycle retailer Jorvik Tricycles has launched a bespoke tricycle derestriction service to deliver enhanced user reliability and support for customers with limited mobility.

Purchases of select models will be eligible for this new service, allowing tricycles to be legally derestricted and increase the throttle power.

Individually processed and certified by the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) this will provide those who are less mobile with the throttle power to tackle inclines without the physical requirement of pedalling.

At a one-time cost of £490, eligible trikes can be legally derestricted to deliver enhanced hill climbing power and longer distance support with zero pedalling required. The service is available exclusively on four of Jorvik’s leading models: JMT-6, JMT-9, JMT-16, and JET-E16, all of which are disability VAT exempt.

The derestriction service can be arranged at the point of purchase, either in-store or over the phone. For existing customers with one of these four leading models, the derestriction service can be added retrospectively at a later date.  Customers may bring their trike to the showroom or Jorvik Tricycles can collect eligible models for the service for an additional fee, subject to location and scheduling.

James Walker, Founder and Managing Director of Jorvik Tricycles, said: “This new service has been a labour of love and something we have been working towards for several years.

“With many of our customers limited by the worry that they may encounter hills they cannot tackle on their journeys, this bespoke service provides them with peace of mind and increased confidence they can rely on their Jorvik tricycle to get them from a-to-b.

“The derestriction service will enable our tricycle users to ride more freely, providing those with limited mobility with the power to tackle hills and longer journeys with ease and ultimately greater freedom and independence.”

Once processed, customers receive an official DVSA certificate confirming the legal derestriction of their tricycle’s throttle. While pedal assist remains capped at 15.5mph, the throttle-only mode previously restricted to 4mph will now offer support between 10–15mph, ideal for those unable to pedal due to physical conditions or who depend on their trike as a primary form of transport.

Founded in 2014 by James Walker, Jorvik Tricycles has grown from humble beginnings, from building tricycles in James’ living room in York, to becoming a leading tricycle provider. Whilst the business has experienced growth across the UK and Europe, providing accessible solutions for people of all abilities remains at the heart of its mission.
