Field Service Engineer – Modern Mobility – Leicestershire
We are offering an opportunity for an experienced Field Service Engineer to work full time from our specialised retail premises in Leicestershire near M1 junction 21.
A trainee would be considered, providing the applicant has a definite aptitude for repairs together with a decent level of product knowledge in this industry.
We are an extremely specialised 22-year-old business catering exclusively to the elderly and disabled.
Your duties will include all aspects of servicing and repairs to our whole product range including (and mainly) mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs. Also delivery, installation and demonstration of various equipment.
Attending customers’ premises, normally in a home environment, with a full range of tools and equipment (provided) to locate the fault and replace or repair the faulty items, ensuring the equipment is working to the customer’s requirements.
This can involve anything from simple battery and connection issues to motor gearbox problems, component failure etc.
You will also be fully involved in all aspects of face to face and telephone customer service in a very specialised retail environment catering exclusively to the elderly and disabled.
Examples of other daily work consist of: telephone communication with clients, potential clients and suppliers; admin duties by both computer and paper methods; sales of mobility and medical aids ranging from walking sticks through to electric wheelchairs; deliveries and installations; and helping and advising clients looking for assistance with their disabilities.
Standard 39 hour week, across Mon-Fri 8.30am to 5.30pm, but normally within 9am to 5pm – must include one Saturday in three and two summer bank holidays.
Negotiable and structured, dependent upon experience.

Five GCSE grade C or above would be preferred, however not essential in the case of an exceptionally promising applicant. English and Maths aptitude are most important as extremely good spelling and grammar are vital, together with good arithmetic.
Previous experience in this or a similar field is essential.
Applicants must be of a very calm, caring and patient nature suited to dealing with a specialised and vulnerable client base.
Willingness to listen and learn and extremely good clear spoken and written English are vital.
Must be of very smart and normal appearance.
Due to the caring and specialised nature of our business and the vulnerability of our customer base, we cannot consider an applicant who looks anything other than extremely presentable in appearance.
I cannot stress how vital it is that our customers, particularly the elderly and frail, feel safe and secure and able to trust us fully. We will not risk causing our customers alarm by any aspect of our staffs’ appearance.
You will already possess a good working knowledge of the whole range of motorised and non-motorised mobility equipment.
A good selling ability or eagerness to learn to sell would be necessary, a lot of additional product knowledge will need to be learned.
Absolute honesty is essential to us, hence any applicants must be completely trustworthy.
Please note:- all our staff have Enhanced DBS certification (criminal records bureau) which displays not only criminal offences but even past cautions. The same will apply to new staff, therefore any misdemeanours or cautions, however small, must be stated at the point of application.
A full clean driving licence is required, together with experience in driving larger vehicles as safe and responsible use of our company vans would be involved.
IT Skills Required
Basic IT knowledge would be useful, for duties such as formulating letters using email and Microsoft Word, online ordering, online contact with customers and suppliers, simple database input etc.
