Sheffield-based postural support specialist Jenx and its UK distribution division Jiraffe recently welcomed a physiotherapist and product and training specialist from adaptive equipment specialist, Rifton

Lori Potts, a world-renowned expert in the postural positioning field, travelled to England from her base in New York.

As well as enjoying a tour of the firm’s factory and offices on Herries Road, Lori hosted an informative CPD accredited seminar at William Merritt, which discussed the link between the new physical activity guidelines for disabled children and adolescents and the role therapeutic equipment can play.

Lori has an extensive background in physical therapy, having worked as a Physiotherapist for more than 20 years. She has also conducted equipment-related workshops internationally.

A session at Downsview School also included an interactive demonstration of the Rifton trike, discussing its features and benefits in relation to children with a disability, followed by an interactive Rifton trike assessment day with therapists and teaching staff to emphasise the importance of the health benefits of physical activity.

Lori also provided specialist Trike and Pacer training and discussed the links between them both at Treloars School.

Kidz South in Farnborough coincided with Lori’s visit, which saw her host a seminar titled ‘Meeting the new activity guidelines for children with disabilities – how can we rise to this challenge?‘.

Lori shared knowledge around the support of evidence-based justification for the clinical use of adaptive tricycles to benefit the health of children and adults with physical disabilities and discussed product solutions for adaptive cycling that meet specific medical conditions to enable opportunities for physical activity in the home and the community.

She also joined Jiraffe director Holly Jenkins on a visit to Paces School, a specialist school in Sheffield that supports families and children with neurological conditions and provides conductive education programmes to transform lives.

In Summer 2020, Jiraffe kindly donated a Rifton Trike to Paces’ pupil Tobias to help him complete his charity challenges.

Lori said: “It was a pleasure to visit, and I am so pleased I got to meet so many amazing people doing extraordinary things for the young people that need it most.

“I am delighted to have had the opportunity to share knowledge and product information with many practising paediatric and adult physiotherapists and occupational therapists in the UK.

“It was a pleasure to deliver my sessions to various industry professionals and to do this alongside Jiraffe.

“Jiraffe product advisors are very passionate and knowledgeable about how valuable postural positioning solutions promote the impact of the health, wellbeing, and participation of individuals with special needs.”

Jenx, the pioneer of postural equipment for children for nearly 40 years, along with its UK distribution centre, Jiraffe, continue to be a family run company.

During a period of significant growth earlier this year due to the expansion and the launch of new products, Jenx and Jiraffe looked for new people to join its teams after already having appointed three new product advisors.
