Healthcare equipment provider, Innova Care Concepts, newly installed modular Changing Places toilet will help audiences with complex care needs to experience The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade more easily.

Taking place from 5 to 27 August the Tattoo will make its long-awaited return, after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with its show Voices.

Over 250,000 people in the UK require access to a Changing Places facility, as standard accessible toilets are unable to meet their care needs. By including a modular Changing Place, the Tattoo venue will cater for visitors with complex care needs who require carer support, appropriate equipment, and more space.

Innova Care Concepts supplied and installed the new facility, including specialist healthcare equipment such as an overhead hoist system, helping to eliminate the need to lift a person manually, reducing the strain on carers’ backs and the risk of injury to the person being transferred.Innova Care Concepts bathroom cubicle

The new facility will be used every year for the festival, helping to make the annual event accessible for all.

Results from Muscular Dystrophy UK’s Changing Places survey in 2021 found that one in five Changing Places users, carers and potential users found it impossible to attend an outdoor event without a Changing Place toilet on site.

Jason Barrett, Chief Operating Officer at The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, commented: “At the Tattoo we believe culture should be available to all, and we are delighted to work with Innova Care Concept to add this facility to our venue for 2022. We are excited to welcome our audience – old and new – back to the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade in August.”

Fiona Souter, Information and Inclusive Communities Director at PAMIS, added: “PAMIS are delighted that The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo have commissioned and installed this modular Changing Places toilet in time for this year’s event and with a commitment for all future years. We are impressed with the passion for inclusion which will enable local and international visitors who require this facility to now also enjoy this amazing event.”

Yorkshire-based Innova Care Concepts is a healthcare equipment provider that focuses on combining aesthetics and functionality to create new, easy-to-use products.

The firm recently supplied and installed a new Changing Places facility at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
