Industry professionals invited to enhance complex seating knowledge at free training day
Prosthetics, orthotics, seating and mobility rehabilitation manufacturer Blatchford is running a free complex seating training day in Sheffield throughout the first quarter of 2019, with the company’s seating specialists sharing valuable advice and information.
Aiming to share with course attendees insights they wish they had been told when they first started out in complex seating, Blatchford’s experts will cover a range of topics including a review of anatomy and the biomechanics of sitting, helpful techniques for assessing posture, as well as discussing how assessment findings influence product selection.
In addition, the course will explore specific product management solutions and how best to use them for different postural presentations.

About the trainers
Dr Mohamed Mirghany BEng (Hons), PGDip, PhD, DipIPEM(s), MIPEM, CSci
Clinical Lead – Seating
Graduated with BEng (Hons) in Medical Engineering, University of Bradford UK in 2000 followed by a PhD in Medical Engineering in 2005 and later completed a PGDip in Biomedical Engineering in 2006 at University of Surrey. Mohamed has been practicing in the NHS since 2005 at Salisbury District Hospital then moved to Morriston Hospital in Swansea in 2014 before joining Blatchford.
He is a visiting University lecturer in Medical Engineering and a supervisor/assessor for the NHS Scientists Training Programme (STP). Mohamed joined Blatchford in 2016 as a Clinical Lead for Special Seating. He is a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist; specialising in Wheelchairs and Special Seating, Gait Analysis, Functional Electrical Stimulation and Medical Engineering Design.
Clinical Lead – Wheelchairs
Caroline is an HCPC registered Occupational Therapist, starting her career in a rotational post, before moving onto become a children’s therapist. Whilst with children’s services, she has been both head of children’s occupational therapy services and clinical lead, and was awarded the Exceptional Contribution to Children’s Services award for her work in capacity and demand. Alongside this, Caroline also completed her MA with a focus on clinical research.
Caroline moved from Children’s services to become clinical lead for the Leicester Wheelchair and Special seating service. During this time, in partnership with the community children’s services, she developed the concept of One Child One Chair, presenting at PMG in 2017 and 2018. In addition, she has worked and lectured in both the UK and UAE.
Caroline is now the National Clinical Lead for Wheelchairs for Blatchford Clinical Services. She has a passion for maximising comfort, function and posture within specialist seating systems.
Kim Chaney MSc, BSc (Hons), CPM
Product Manager – Seating
Kim graduated in Occupational Therapy from Coventry University in 1994 and initially completed a two-year rotational post at Leicester General Hospital, followed by three years in long term neurological rehabilitation. In 1999, Kim joined Leicester Wheelchair Service, becoming Clinical Lead in 2003.
She was European Clinical Specialist at Invacare for seven years, during which time she completed an MSc in Ergonomics (Human Factors).
Following this, Kim worked as a Global Product Manager/Principle Specialist for Ottobock in Germany for four years, returning to the UK in 2016 to join Blatchford as Product Manager for Seating and Orthotics.
