Industry colleagues invited to pay last respects to bath lift pioneer
Following the announcement that David Edmund Talbot Garman, the inventor of the world’s first portable powered bath lift and founder of Mangar International Ltd, passed peacefully on 4th January 2019, his family have shared details of the funeral arrangements and welcome industry peers to attend and pay their last respects.
A well-liked and respected figure in the industry, David invented, designed and manufactured a number of products that went on to shape the industry and help people all across the globe. In 2007, aged 85, he was presented the British Healthcare Trades Association’s (BHTA) Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2014, David was awarded an OBE for services to the healthcare industry.
The founder of Mangar International, a company founded with his wife, Francesca, back in 1981, the couple ran Presteigne-based company until he was well into his 90s, before selling the company in 2014. At the end of 2018, Mangar was acquired by French-manufacturer Winncare for an undisclosed amount.
Andrew Barker, former Managing Director of Mangar and current acting Commercial Director of the BHTA, paid tribute to David: “There are not many people who start their own company and certainly not when they are 60. David was very much a pioneer and incredibly inventive but above all, a true gent. He will be sadly missed.”
