TGA Mobility team at Scoot Safet mobility scooter event in May
The team at TPG DisableAids successfully hosted a mobility scooter safe driving day, supported by TGA Mobility, Hereford Council and West Mercia Police

Joining forces to tackle the growing concerns surrounding mobility scooters, TGA Mobility and TPG DisableAids have held an event at the latter’s headquarters in Hereford, supported by the local County Council and West Mercia Police force.

Described as a healthy turnout of visitors by the mobility scooter supplier, the event saw TGA Mobility freely loan their test track to TPG DisableAids for the day, allowing attendees to negotiate obstacles often encountered when out and about, such as road crossings, uneven ground and kerbs, in a safe, controlled environment.

Visitors to the safety day on the 22nd May had the opportunity to test out a number of TGA scooters, including the company’s new Minimo Autofold, as well as receive expert advice from TPG and TGA advisors.

Alastair Gibbs, Managing Director, TPG DisableAids, said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended our latest successful safe scooter driving day. Feedback from visitors, who experienced our test track kindly supplied by TGA, was really positive especially as it provided a fun and engaging range of obstacles to tackle.

“Road safety is essential for all scooters users and those who share the same space such as pedestrians. We believe it is not acceptable to own a scooter and drive it irresponsibly, owners need to consider others – hence our free awareness training at this event and on an ongoing basis.

“TPG DisableAids is committed to delivering a consistent message with Hereford County Council and the local constabulary regarding appropriate use of mobility scooters. We want all locals living with restricted mobility to enjoy confident, positive independence without risk or worry.”

Highlighting that the event will act as a platform to generate awareness directed at helping existing and potential elderly scooter owners and their decision-makers understand the importance of scooter safety and buying from reputable dealers, Alastair added the event will also raise the profile of mobility in general.

“Equally, we assist disabled individuals from a young age, sometimes from age eight upwards, so a better understanding of the contemporary style and capabilities of scooters these days was another invaluable angle – hence the outside broadcast from trendy Like Radio,” he continued.

“An excellent and rewarding day all round for locals and our business and we look forward to championing road safety even more in the future.”

Everyone who tackled the course received a free safe driving certificate and an ice-cream confirmed TPG, with the event also providing the opportunity to watch and participate in scooter hoist demonstrations and discuss insurance options.

TGA Mobility’s dealer outreach efforts

TPG DisableAids, a leading mobility product specialist serving five counties from its Hereford base since 1985, is the first retailer to take TGA Mobility up on its Safe Scoot initiative which launched at the mobility scooter supplier’s Dealer Day in February.

Designed to provide what TGA calls a ‘triple-win,’ the Scoot Safe initiative provides dealers with a unique educational avenue to drive new business, take proactive action to address increasing scooter accidents and protect their customers, as well as benefit from positive PR.

In return, the event enables TGA Mobility to form a stronger relationship with dealers, enhance its brand presence and product awareness amongst valuable end-user, in addition to being at the forefront of the scooter safety campaign.

Recently, Bognor Regis-based retailer Mobility and Comfort confirmed it will be the next company to host the safe scooter driving event with TGA Mobility on the 7th June.
