HAS Technology

Health and social care technology company HAS Technology has been announced the winner in the ‘Innovation in Health Tech’ category at the LaingBuisson Awards 2020 for “uniquely providing high tech in a traditionally low-tech sector.”

HAS Technology’s ARMED prevention technology was recognised for its innovative approach to assisting people to live more independently and to reduce falls and associated hospital admissions during yesterday’s virtual awards ceremony, which had been postponed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The judges stated that they liked the “predictive and preventative nature of the product”, which they felt could be “very helpful in stopping emergencies.”

The annual LaingBuisson Awards celebrate industry excellence and innovation in the UK health and social care services and HAS Technology beat off stiff competition in its category to be named the winner.

ARMED measures data associated with frailty and risk of falling, enabling those managing care to intervene at earlier stages, preventing more significant health risks.

It also promotes self-management by making people more aware of a variety of indicators.

Brian Brown, Director of ARMED, said: “We are delighted that our ARMED solution has been recognised in these prestigious awards.

“The pandemic has accelerated the need for innovative solutions that allow risk factors to be monitored from afar and help keep people out of hospital. ARMED empowers people with information that supports wellbeing and independence.

“Being able to implement and manage the software remotely over the pandemic has been key to its continued success and we are thrilled to see that digital transformation is being embraced by the sector.

“Increasing independence and identifying risks at the earliest opportunity is central to the work of ARMED.”

ARMED was developed with support from Edinburgh Napier University and Scotland’s Digital Health and Care Institute (DHI), as well as being in the 1% of companies chosen to be a Microsoft partner.

In the past year, ARMED has also triumphed in a number of other awards, having been named winner in the Tomorrow’s Care Awards, The Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards and the Digital Health and Care Awards, again being recognised for its innovative approach in assisting people to live more independently as well as its ability to change culture through innovative technology.

It was also highly commended in the HTN Awards 2020 in its ‘Best Health Tech Solution of the Year’ category.

This award winning solution is currently being used by hundreds of users including councils, housing associations, telecare services, health and social care partnerships and private home care providers.

Most recently, Dumfries and Galloway HSCP (Health and Social Care Partnership) have been successfully using HAS Technology’s award-winning ARMED prevention technology to redesign its night-time support.

During the coronavirus pandemic, HAS Technology worked with Cardiff Council to provide residents with innovative wearables that can help to identify certain health risks early on.

The ARMED (Advanced Risk Modelling for Early Detection) wearable software was implemented by the council as part of its telecare response service. This service helps to put preventative health measures in place for Cardiff residents and identify risks remotely.
