Nick Apetroaie, Habinteg
Nick Apetroaie has been appointed as the new Chief Executive for Habinteg Housing Association, a national provider of affordable accessible homes and support services.

Nick was previously Executive Director for Care, Education and Safeguarding for the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) – a role he held for three years.

Prior to RNIB, Nick spent nine years at 16,000 home Viridian Housing, including time as Care Director and Property Director, culminating in three years as CEO.

Nick said: “I’m delighted to join Habinteg at a time rich with possibilities. I’ve always admired its commitment to developing affordable, accessible and adaptable homes that meet the needs of its customers.”

The new CEO said he was also looking forward to the opportunities provided by Habinteg’s Centre for Accessible Environments, an authority on inclusive design, providing consultancy, training, research and publications on building design and management to meet the needs of disabled and older people.

Nick added: “I’m happy to be joining an exemplary housing provider, which puts the customer at the centre of its services while leading an ambitious development programme.

“It’s exciting to be taking on a role championing societal change by ensuring that everyone has a right to an accessible and adaptable home in an inclusive neighbourhood.

“My aim is to work with colleagues to build an organisation that both staff and tenants are proud to be part of – an organisation that invests in its staff and supports them to deliver great outcomes for customers.”

Manny Lewis, Chair of Habinteg’s board, said: “Nick will bring a wealth of relevant knowledge and experience to Habinteg.

“He is keen to promote a culture that challenges out-of-date perceptions and stigma around disability and will build on our track record of delivery and innovation.

“I and the Board look forward to working with him. I would also like to thank Bryonie Shaw and the Executive Team for stepping up and leading the organisation so well over the last four months.”

Dave Homer, Chair of the National Tenant Forum, said: “It was a pleasure to meet with Nick as part of the recruitment process.

“He has an excellent track record and, thanks to his experience of the social housing and charity sector, I believe he will help make a positive impact on the services tenants receive.”

Nick replaces Sheron Carter as CEO at Habinteg.
