GRX Life Softwheel

With the wheelchair power add-on market continuing to grow, Alton-based GRX Life has secured the exclusive distribution rights to the unique Softwheel, an in-wheel suspension product that pairs well manual wheelchairs using powered add-on bikes.

The specialist mobility retailer that supplies a range of manual wheelchairs and power add-on devices is headed up by Ryan Gratrix, Managing Director and former Sales Director at GBL Wheelchairs, and Dan Sutton, Commercial Manager and former Business Development Manager for RGK Wheelchairs.

Now the developing mobility company will look to popularise the latest Softwheel model across the UK, with Dan confirming to THIIIS that GRX Life will be selling directly to clients and also through agreements with key UK dealers.

Discussing the decision to distribute the in-wheel suspension technology, Dan explained: “We have been aware of them for a few years through Naidex originally but the recent relaunch of the SoftWheel version 3 has reduced the weight and with new production facilities in Canada and a really productive meeting at Rehacare in Germany, we considered it the right time to commit.”

The Softwheel technology features a patented in-wheel suspension system that improves a vehicle’s performance, according to the Tel Aviv-based manufacturer, with the wheel’s suspension arms set equidistant around a central hub to provide shock absorption, regardless of the angle of impact from an obstacle.

“We are seeing a huge surge in powered add on bike sales but the increases in speed and terrain that wheelchairs are now subjected to, as well as the discomfort that can be felt by the user, means a viable suspension system is needed that is quick and simple to retrofit, such as a quick-release wheel,” continued Dan.

“Having thoroughly tested the wheels, we think that they are an ideal product for protecting the wheelchair itself from excess shocks/vibrations and extra maintenance, as well as a far more comfortable ride for the user. The suspension also offers greater stability and safety when operating the bikes.”

With the first shipment in and available now, the company is actively beginning to develop a dealer network in the UK and says it welcomes enquiries from appropriate dealers and “particularly ones specialising in power add-on bike sales.”

Founded three years ago, GRX Life has enjoyed consecutive year-on-year growth since entering the market.

According to Dan, the company’s philosophy of offering an expert professional service based on over 30 combined years of assessing clients and as wheelchair users themselves, along with extensive product knowledge of all the key manufacturers’ portfolios, has been key to its success.

“It is also great to have a spread of business through wheelchair services, rehab units, case managers and end-users, as well as developing new areas such as B2B with the SoftWheel,” he finished.
