Friendly Shoes 2Accessible footwear specialist Friendly Shoes has introduced its range of adaptive footwear solutions to UK mobility retailers.

The brand was founded by Joseph DiFrancisco in 2019, an occupational therapist from San Diego, who was shocked to see so many people unable to put on shoes in his career.

Designed to be comfortable, functional and stylish for people who have difficulties with mobility the lightweight footwear is available in three smart styles and a variety of colours.

Offering ‘easy shoe access’, the roomy shoes feature a wide E toe box and cushioned linings, making them a comfortable option for people with wide and swollen feet.

Wide-opening, discreet zips feature at the back or go all the way down the side, making it easier for individuals to get their shoes on and off.

Orthotic friendly and anti-slip, Friendly Shoes state that the shoes can accommodate ankle-foot orthoses and have removable memory foam insoles.

Jessica Silver, who is Friendly Shoes exclusive distributor in the UK, commented: “Since launching at Naidex in September 2021, the response has been overwhelmingly positive from consumers, healthcare professionals and retailers.

“They realise that our shoes offer a point of difference to the adaptive and wide fitting shoe market.

“The colours, sleek styles and level of support appeal to people who previously struggled to find shoes that fitted well, and that they were proud to wear.”

There are three styles in the range, available for men and women: Force, Voyage and Excursion. ‘Force’ is ideal for both indoor and outdoor wear, according to Friendly Shoes, and is the roomiest style thanks to the elastic tab at the top. The shoe features a side zip and does not have laces.

The ‘Voyage’ style features a side zip with large loop to help people with less hand dexterity. The whole shoe opens up so that the wearer can see to the end, meaning the foot can easily be slotted in.

A third style, ‘Excursion’ is a sturdy shoe available in both low and mid-top options. Both offer padded heel collars for stability and are easy to get on. Kids shoe styles and sizing are also available.
