Having successfully run Z-Tec for many years as the mobility distribution arm of Murrays Pharmacy, Ian Reekie has now become the company’s Managing Director after purchasing it from the community pharmacy group.

Originally launched by Murrays Pharmacy to complement its community pharmacy operations, the group decided earlier in the year to concentrate its attentions firmly on its core pharmacy business, explained Ian.

Murrays began searching for a buyer for its long-established mobility distribution arm, receiving interest from a number of different pharmacy groups, before Ian decided the time was right for him to take it over.

“After running Z-Tec for a number of years, the opportunity to take it on and develop the company seemed too good to pass up,” he told THIIS.

Z-Tec Mobility Ian Reekie“I have partnered with a local businessman and went in with an offer which was accepted, so now it is full steam ahead and we have some really exciting things in the pipeline.”

Now officially becoming Z-Tec Mobility Ltd, the new MD emphasised that it is a fresh, new beginning for the West Midlands-based supplier, underpinned by its industry experience.

“We have done a TUPE transfer with all the staff, bringing them across and retaining all the expertise and knowledge as we look to move ahead with some of our plans,” continued Ian.

“It really is a case of a new start for Z-Tec but built on solid foundations of dealer support and service, developing on the existing business to enhance our offer to our customers.”

Speaking with Sue Walmesley, Sales Executive at Z-Tec, she explained how eager the Z-Tec team were to continue to support the company during the transition: “It is a really exciting time and we are all pulling out the stops to support Ian and the new owner to the hilt.”

Looking ahead to 2020, Ian highlighted that the mobility equipment distributor is currently busy preparing to bring new products to the sector, as well as rolling out a new Z-Tec Mobility website in January.

“There are some new, fresh and innovative products for next year which I am confident will prove popular,” emphasised John.

“These are really nice and we plan to have them available to purchase in the middle of the year.”

In the coming weeks, a letter will be sent to all Z-Tec customers, informing them of the new structure, however, Ian noted that the only real change dealers will see will be a change to the bank account and letterhead.

The sale will complete on the 2nd of January 2020
