A new Level 4 OCN-certified training course from Foundations will support professionals to carry out robust Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) assessments for home adaptations.

The ‘Trusted DFG Assessor: Assessing and Adapting the Home’ course will take place from 11-23 June 2026 in Worcestershire. The course is designed to help delegates understand what is necessary and appropriate when assessing for a DFG within the purposes of the legislation.

The course will cover how to evaluate the suitability of the home environment and identify safe, preventative adaptation solutions that meet the needs of disabled people.

Attendees will learn how to set out which adaptations are necessary and appropriate, as well as when to prescribe daily living equipment and home adaptations. This includes solutions that facilitate access to the home and garden, through to access to the bedroom, shower, toilet and washbasin.

The training will also explore key areas such as legislation and assessment, understanding the needs of the client and their environment, weighing risks against benefits, assessing the legislative purposes of the DFG, and identifying when more complex cases should be passed back for specialist assessment.

A previous attendee commented on the course: “Well presented, informative and enjoyable. I walked into the training blind but now have a lot more knowledge and confidence.”

As part of the course, delegates will also put their learning into action through a hands-on practical assessment task. Foundations says attendees will gain the skills, tools and confidence needed to deliver DFG assessments at Level 4 standard.

The course is aimed at professionals looking to strengthen their knowledge of DFG assessment and home adaptation practice, while developing practical skills to support safe, proportionate and effective outcomes for clients.
