Paul Smith, Director of FoundationsFoundations, the national body for home improvement agencies in England, has endorsed the Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing (SRS), an environmental, social and governance standard designed for the housing sector.

Foundations is contracted by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to support the delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants and oversee a national network of over 200 Home Improvement Agencies (HIAs) and handyperson providers across England.

Paul Smith, Director of Foundations, said: “We endorse the SRS because we believe that more accessible homes will be more sustainable homes. As the national body for Disabled Facilities Grants, we see the value in investing in long-term accessibility solutions over temporary fixtures.

“This not only reduces waste and frequent modifications but also enhances the well-being of residents, ensuring our communities are both adaptable and sustainable for the future.”

“We are proud that Foundations has committed to promoting and supporting the SRS and look forward to working with the team.”

The SRS reporting framework was launched in November 2020 by the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Working Group. It was developed to establish a transparent, consistent and comparable set of ESG criteria across the housing sector.

Recent research by Ageing Better revealed that fixing the dangerous homes lived in by older people would directly save the NHS and the social care sector more than £1.5 billion a year while delivering billions more in health benefits.
