First look of virtual stands as industry comes together for Disability Awareness Day Virtual
Theraposture, Abacus Specialist Bathroom Solutions and Driving Mobility will be showcasing a range of innovative products and services at Disability Awareness Day Virtual, as the interactive show gears up to take place this month.
Organised and managed by Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP), Disability Awareness Day (DAD) is a ‘pan disability event which promotes a culture that focuses on what disabled people can-do’. Dave Thompson MBE founded the organising charity WDP in 1991 and the annual DAD event in 1992.
Held in a tented village on the grounds of Walton Hall, Warrington, DAD provides a wide range of features including assistive product displays, workshops, advice and entertainment for disabled adults and children.
In 2019, the event was supported by 260 exhibitors with over 25,000 visitors attending on the day. The event has run for 28 years and welcomed over 600,000 people.
However due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WDP decided to run the show virtually this year, following the charity’s decision to postpone its live event until 2021 due to ongoing concerns surrounding coronavirus.
Instead of a physical event, WDP has now created an innovative and interactive online platform that delivers all the fun and entertainment of its live event along with the information, advice and guidance that the show and charity prides itself on.
Hosted online at dadvirtual.org.uk and taking place on 25 October, the show will include visitor favourites including the Arts Marquee, showcasing the best disabled UK artists; the Sports Zone, revealing a plethora of sports that visitors can learn about; as well as the Main Arena, where visitors can see a video of what they would have seen at the live event.
Adding to the raft of mobility suppliers that have signed up to participate in the digital event, Driving Mobility will be demonstrating its range of assisted driving and mobility assessment services for all ages. Service users self-refer or are signposted to its 20 centres from the DVLA, Motability, the police and healthcare professionals such as GPs and occupational therapists.
These centres provide over 70 outreach facilities, bringing services closer to where people live. Centres are managed by independent charities or NHS departments – all focused on helping people with disabilities or life-changing diagnosis to continue driving safely.

Our stand will include an array of useful information including case studies, videos and a brochure that introduces our services. Visitors will be able to contact us direct to enquire about driving and mobility assessments.”
Furthermore, Theraposture will also be exhibiting at DAD Virtual, showcasing its range of award-winning adjustable beds, including the patented Rotoflex rotating bed.
The Rotoflex is a proven solution for getting in and out of bed independently for those with restricted mobility. According to the supplier, it is the only turning bed in the world to include a powered rising heel support which represents a significant innovation for people who need to safely elevate their legs in bed.
The Theraposture stand will also include displays detailing its portfolio of power-assisted paediatric cots and electric rise and recliner chairs. In terms of information and support, there will be an array of engaging PDF literature, videos and case studies for people with disabilities, families, carers and OTs.
In addition, Theraposture’s new live video assessments will be featured as they provide a convenient and contactless option for clients seeking product demonstrations.
Alongside Driving Mobility and Theraposture, Abacus Specialist Bathroom Solutions will also be displaying its range of accessible baths at DAD Virtual.
