Euan’s Guide highlights the use of Red Cord Cards in making accessible toilets safer
Disabled access charity Euan’s Guide has been highlighting the use of its Red Cord Cards – which have so far surpased the 100,000 milestone in distribution – to make accessible toilets safer.
Euan’s Guide has made tens of thousands of accessible toilets safer since launching the Red Cord Card initiative in 2015.
These pocket-sized notices placed on red emergency cords to remind the public and businesses that red emergency cords should remain untangled and hang freely to the floor.
Red emergency cords are designed to be a way for someone to safely and easily alert people outside the facilities that their assistance is required.
The cord needs to be easy to reach for someone sitting on the toilet or lying on the floor. A common problem is that red emergency cords are tied up, cut short, out of reach or missing entirely.
Euan MacDonald, Co-Founder of Euan’s Guide, said: “Making 100,000 accessible toilets safer is an incredible milestone but we want to have a Red Cord Card in every accessible toilet across the country.
“That is only going to be possible with the support of more people and businesses as we continue to raise awareness of this life-saving issue.”
The disabled access charity used World Toilet Day last week to raise awareness of safer accessible toilets and asked venues and businesses to test the red emergency cord in their accessible toilet by pulling it to make sure the alarm works correctly.
They have also produced a series of top tips for venues about how they can improve their accessible facilities.
Euan’s Guide is best known for EuansGuide.com, the disabled access review website where disabled people, their family, friends and carers can find and share reviews on the accessibility of venues around the UK and beyond. The website shares thousands of experiences and is the go-to tool for many disabled people.
In October, a landmark Euan’s Guide survey, supported by Motability Operations, was carried out seeking disabled people’s views on accessibility in a post lockdown world.https://thiis.co.uk/euans-guide-highlights-the-use-of-red-cord-cards-in-making-accessible-toilets-safer/https://i1.wp.com/thiis.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/21-WTD-Social2.jpg?fit=900%2C450&ssl=1https://i1.wp.com/thiis.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/21-WTD-Social2.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1NewsroomReports & ResearchSector NewsThird Sectoraccessible, disabled,Euan's Guide, facilities, public,Red Cord Cards, toiletsDisabled access charity Euan’s Guide has been highlighting the use of its Red Cord Cards – which have so far surpased the 100,000 milestone in distribution – to make accessible toilets safer.
