Euan's Guide accessible toiletToday, on World Toilet Day, disabled access charity Euan’s Guide is calling attention to the urgent need for safer, more accessible toilets and highlighting the simple actions everyone can take to make a meaningful difference.

Euan’s Guide, the charity behind the UK’s disabled access review website, has long championed small, practical interventions that boost confidence, dignity and independence for disabled people.

This year, the charity is marking World Toilet Day with the relaunch of its newly designed popular Red Cord Cards, and a call for the public to celebrate accessible loos that get it right.Euan's Guide accessible toilet

To date, the Euan’s Guide Safer Toilets campaign has helped improve the safety of more than 175,000 accessible toilets.

Central to this success are the charity’s recently relaunched bright, easy-to-spot Red Cord Cards, which hang on emergency alarm cords and remind people that the cord must be left to hang freely all the way to the floor.

A correctly positioned red cord can save a life – but many are still tied up, looped over fixtures, or cut short.

Euan’s Guide is encouraging the public, businesses and local organisations to order Red Cord Cards, distribute them within their communities, and help ensure accessible toilets remain safe for everyone who relies on them.

Euan’s Guide is also inviting the public to celebrate accessible toilets that get it right.

Users who have had a positive experience – whether it’s an accessible loo that felt safer, cleaner, more dignified or simply easier to use – are asked to share their experience by leaving a review on EuansGuide.com.Euan's Guide accessible toilet

These reviews help disabled people know what to expect before they go and support better planning, confidence and independence while encouraging venues to maintain good practice and fix issues quickly

A review takes only minutes but can have a lasting impact on someone’s day – or even determine whether they feel able to visit a venue at all.

The Euan’s Guide Access Survey has revealed that 77 per cent of respondents have avoided a venue because they couldn’t find information about an accessible toilet.
