Etac receives patent for pioneering, multi-adjustable 3D wheelchair back support
Etac, the Scandinavian mobility and independent living aids manufacturer, has confirmed it has received patent for its innovative ‘3D back support’, a cushion mouldable in all directions which is ideal for asymmetry and kyphosis.
With ageing affecting the curvature of the spine, a person’s spine is diagnosed as kyphosis if the spinal curvature exceeds 45-degrees. The company’s back support aims to provide space and support in all directions for users with kyphosis, as well as other asymmetries.
The 3D back support system consists of three soft padded panels connected with slide fabric. The two soft, padded side panels provide lateral support and create a horizontal contoured shape, whilst the centre panel follows the vertical shape of the user’s back.
“Together with our earlier innovation of the tension-adjustable and dynamic pelvic support, the now patented solution gives three-dimensional positioning possibilities for the users while enabling them to be as active and independent as possible,” stated the company.
“This provides a unique clinical function that no other multi-functional wheelchair solution offers.”
Supplying an extensive product range consisting of mobility aids and accessories, seating solutions, moving and handling equipment, toileting and bathing aids and pressure care products, the Swedish headquartered company achieved sales of approximately £149.5million in 2018.
Earlier this month, it announced Fredrik Dalborg will join the company in 2020 as Etac’s new CEO
