Motability The Big Event

The Motability Scheme’s flagship show The Big Event, will feature an electric vehicle information hub for the first time to educate visitors with limited mobility about what to consider when deciding if an EV is right for them.

Taking place on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 May 2022 at the NEC in Birmingham, the dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) Info Hub is designed to provide visitors with information and expert advice while highlighting the worry-free motoring package available through the Scheme.

Features of the package include home charging units, offered at no extra cost for customers leasing their first pure battery electric vehicle. There will also be a chance to explore some of the most popular smartphone apps and find out how they can help you make the most of an EV.

At The Big Event, there will be opportunities for visitors to learn more about EVs with Speaker Sessions featuring presentations from EV experts and the Motability Scheme’s home charging partners Ohme and Easee. Manufacturers including Nissan, Hyundai and Vauxhall will also be displaying EVs, and EV experts will be available to answer questions.

It will be possible to see how wheelchair accessible mobility in electric vehicles is being developed, with charging demonstrations from the Scheme’s charging partners on hand. Visitors will be able to explore Zap-Map’s digital platform for EV drivers to search for charge points, plan longer journeys and share updates with other EV drivers.

The family-friendly event is free to attend, and children can meet the Scheme mascot, Billy the Bear, who is happy to take selfies. There will also be a children’s play area, as well as cafés, plenty of seating, and accessible toilet facilities.

In addition to the in-person show, The Big Event 2022 will be live-streamed for anyone who is not able to attend so that they can watch all the action from their home. Viewers will be able to join host Helen Dolphin MBE as the event live streams all the Speaker Sessions as well as shows exclusive live interviews, product demos, Q&As, and footage from across the two days at The Big Event.

The Big Event will be followed by regional One Big Day Events taking place this year in Exeter (23 July), Harrogate (13 August) and Edinburgh (17 September).

Last August, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, saw the first ever online version of The Big Event with 3,200 disabled motorists, carers and their friends and families tuning into learn about worry-free motoring with the Motability Scheme.
