It is suitable for people who need a portable and lightweight powerchair which is simple to travel with by car, train or plane, thanks to the airline-friendly battery.

A Drive Medical spokesperson commented: “We’re excited to expand our Astrolite family with a lightweight folding powerchair designed to make everyday mobility simple, practical, and reliable.”

With its lightweight aluminium frame, and compact folding design, the powerchair folds down to a small size enough to put in the car boot. This means less effort, or for anyone who travels a lot or just needs something reliable for daily use.

The powerchair has dual 200W brushless motors, which deliver smooth power and supports users up to 120kg so it suits a wide range of users and it has a compact turning radius of 103cm.

The 10.4Ah lithium-ion battery offers a range of up to 8.7 miles (14km) on a single charge, which comfortably covers most everyday trips. The user can charge the battery on the chair or remove it and charge it indoors. The aluminium frame has a carry weight of just 14.6kg and the nimble powerchair can be controlled using a joystick controller, offering a smooth ride even in a tight spaces.

At the rear of the chair are small anti-tip wheels that prevent the chair from becoming unstable when going up an incline.

When it’s time to get on or off the powerchair, the footplates flip up to create more standing space, and the armrests can be flipped up to make side transfers easier.

For users who need carer support there is an optional attendant control bracket which fits on the push handle tubing and allows a family member or carer take over the controls when needed, which is helpful on unfamiliar routes or longer outings.
