Welsh medical device manufacturer Direct Healthcare Group (DHG) has completed the acquisition of Danish patient turning system manufacturer, Vendlet ApS.

Vendlet, based in Aabenraa, Denmark, has over 30 years’ experience in the development, manufacturing and application of powered patient turning systems that deliver a safe and comfortable turning experience for the patient whilst preventing the risk of musculoskeletal injury for the caregiver.

It has several awards for its innovative patient turning system, and has become synonymous with high-quality patient care within the bed.

The acquisition of Vendlet adds a highly innovative and well regarded product to DHG’s comprehensive safe moving and handling portfolio, providing a holistic package of care for patients who are suffering from reduced mobility within the bed.

DHG’s portfolio is focused on promoting movement and independence, reducing the risk of caregiver injury and creating the vital link between safe patient handling and pressure ulcer prevention.

Customers of Vendlet will now have access to a significantly greater range of solutions that enable movement and prevent the development of avoidable harms, including an innovative range of pressure ulcer prevention surfaces.

Graham Ewart, CEO of DHG, said: “Vendlet, and specifically the Vendlet Patient Turning System, is a best-in-class, highly regarded powered patient turning system that is globally renowned for the positive impact it brings to patients and those that care for them.

“At DHG we continually look to provide healthcare with solutions that improve quality of care, and we firmly believe that Vendlet is one such business that delivers this.

“We are excited by the opportunity that the acquisition of Vendlet brings to DHG in delivering holistic care packages that focus on improving mobility and reducing the avoidable harms that can occur as a result of immobility.”

Peter Maindal, CEO of Vendlet, said: “Both Vendlet and DHG share a common vision in providing industry-leading solutions that provide better clinical outcomes. DHG, and the broader solutions that they can provide, are a perfect fit for Vendlet, its products, and its expertise. The businesses are highly complementary to each other, and together provide a unique value proposition for patients and caregivers.”

The acquisition of Vendlet, DHG’s first of 2022, is the latest in DHG’s ongoing period of growth and expansion, following on from the acquisitions of Talley Group and United Care in 2021, and the acquisitions of Gate Rehab, Handicare Patient Handling EUROW, and MediMattress (Carital) in 2020.

Backed by ArchiMed, a leading independent investment firm specialised in the healthcare industries, who encouraged this strategic growth through dedicated resources and with significant capital commitment, DHG has stated that it continues to seek new ways to support efforts to move health forward by delivering innovative and leading solutions for individuals whose lives are impacted by reduced movement.

Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Caerphilly, Wales, DHG was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade 2021 and ranked fourth in the 2021 annual HSBC International Track 200 for it’s export success.

Today, it employs more than 600 people and has a direct presence in five European countries, with its products further distributed in 35 international markets.

In November 2021, DHG launched a digital monitoring system to help with the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.

Vendlet is an assisted living technology company that works with the development and production of assisted living aids for the health and care sector. The company was founded in the 1980s when an engineer wanted to improve the care of his disabled daughter.
