Cumbrian collaboration creates crafted custom wheelchairs for countryside tourists
A country estate in the heart of the Lake District National Park has collaborated with two artisan Cumbrian companies to create unique, attractive wheelchairs to ensure guests can enjoy the Langdale Valley’s spectacular scenery.
Produced for the Langdale Estate, which is home to Brimstone Hotel, Brimstone Spa, Langdale Hotel and Stove restaurant, by local companies Cable & Blake and Cat’s Paw, the customised range of wheelchairs will now be available for guest to use for free during the duration of their stay.
Herdwick fabric company Cable & Blake creates locally produced Herdwick fabrics sourced from Cumbrian farms and woven on traditional looms in the Yorkshire Dales and collaborates with local companies to furnish items with its high-quality.
In this latest collaboration, the company upholstered its fabric to the chairs, bringing the aesthetic of the chairs in with its country surroundings.
Additionally, Broughton-in-Furness-based cabinet maker Cat’s Paw, owned and run by Tim Challis, constructed custom armrests and brake handles for the wheelchairs, using locally sourced, sustainable English hardwoods.
Nick Lancaster, Managing Director of Langdale Estate said: “We want every element of the experience we offer for guests to be special and this obviously extends to the wheelchairs which we have for use on the estate.
“It has been great to collaborate with two Cumbrian companies, both exceptional at their craft and both of which make the most of local, sustainable materials. We are pleased with the wheelchairs, not only do they look wonderful, they offer the comfort rightly expected by our guests.”
