COVID-19 Bed Drive DeVilbiss RD

With new Nightingale hospitals in London, Birmingham and Manchester already operational and more to come in Sunderland and Exeter, Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare has swiftly created a new hospital bed range to meet the swelling demand caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Named the Rapid Deployment (RD) bed, the product has gone from concept to manufacture in a matter of days and has been designed to assist the ever-growing need for hospital beds required for rapid deployment in areas such as field hospitals and emergency community settings.

According to Drive DeVilbiss, it’s manufacturing facilities in Halifax are working around the clock to produce these new beds in order to support the demand across the NHS and social care system.

The RD bed is a fixed height, two-section profiling bed with a manually adjustable backrest that has been designed for ease and speed of assembly to meet the requirements of temporary hospital environments.

Requiring no electrical power and no expert knowledge or specialist tools to assemble the beds, the RD bed has quick-release head and footends and a lever to allow the backrest to be lowered quickly should CPR be required.

“The RD bed has been designed, tested and produced in record fast time to ensure that we can do our very best to meet the increasing demand for hospital beds to support the new NHS Nightingale sites across the UK,” commented Graham Turner Vice President International Product Management and Marketing at Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare.

“I am extremely proud of all of the teams involved in this project, all working under very tight timelines.”

The RD bed comes in two models – one with and one without castors – and packages are also available from Drive DeVilbiss, including the RD bed, a foam mattress and an overbed table to quickly and easily furnish emergency medical care environments.
