herts ability branding

Established over 60 years ago, Hertfordshire Action on Disability (HAD) has rebranded to Herts Ability as the charity that helps people to live independently looks to the future.

The name and logo change comes into effect today, alongside a website address alteration to hertsability.org.uk and all email addresses now ending in @hertsability.org.uk rather than @hadnet.org.uk.

Founded in 1958 to provide vital equipment to local people in its community by the then Welfare Department of the County Council, the charity has continued to grow over the decades, widening its portfolio of services.

Today, Herts Ability still supplies important equipment to people from its Equipment Centre, offering a comprehensive range of products, as well as occupational therapy assessment services and driving assessments to keep disabled individuals safe and mobile.

The decision to change its name comes as the charity looks to shift the perspective from supporting disability to enabling ability, better reflecting its core values and services.

“Following discussions with our customers, we recognise that people from all walks of life rightly emphasise ability, not disability,” said Herts Ability.

“Our focus is on assisting and supporting people to be as independent as possible, and we believe Herts Ability is a better reflection of what we do.”

Emphasising that change in brand name and identity will not impact on the services it offers at present, the Hertfordshire charity says it will continue to provide equipment and OT assessments, alongside remaining an accredited member of Driving Mobility.

A statement for Herts Ability said: “We will remain a charity and continue to be a local centre of excellence and knowledge to older people and those with disabilities in Hertfordshire and the surrounding area.”

It added: “Helping our clients live independent lives is the overriding aim of our charity and it will always be central to our identity and objective. Our commitment to these core values – which places clients at the centre of everything we do – will continue.”

Despite the website and email address changes, the charity’s former HAD website page and email addresses will continue to redirect individuals to the new addresses, whilst its office address and telephone numbers remain the same.

It follows a significant website revamp completed by the charity last year as it explores new ways to generate revenue to enable it to provide important local community services in the years to come.
