CareCo launches new initiative to highlight adoption of carbon fibre technology in the sector

Commonly used in Formula 1 for its strength-to-weight ratio, carbon fibre is five times stronger than steel but approximately 30 per cent lighter than aluminium – the manufacturing standard for mobility frames.
The integration of this material into premium mobility products addresses a consumer demand for lighter, highly transportable equipment that remains structurally robust.
In addition to significant weight reduction, carbon fibre offers distinct engineering advantages over traditional metals, including complete resistance to rust and corrosion. For rollator and wheelchair users, the material also provides significant ergonomic benefits, CareCo states.
While standard metal frames transmit harsh mechanical vibrations from uneven pavements and dropped kerbs directly to the user’s hands, wrists, and lower back, carbon fibre naturally disperses these impulses, effectively acting as built-in structural suspension without adding mechanical weight.
Carbon fibre products are recognised for being easier to carry and lift into cars, on public transport or when travelling abroad. They are also long-lasting and durable due to the manufacturing process and are lighter weight, will being stronger than steel.
Paralympian Gold Medallist and CareCo ambassador Charlotte Henshaw MBE, who owns an AirFold Pro Carbon Scooter, says, “The introduction of carbon fibre mobility products is a really positive step forward. I take my scooter with me whenever I travel, and thanks to its lightweight design, it’s just as easy to take abroad as it is to lift into the car for everyday journeys. Being able to fold it down quickly makes it incredibly practical and portable.
“I originally chose it because of that convenience, but it’s also a great example of how much mobility products have evolved. We’ve already seen carbon fibre transform performance across elite sport, and now those same benefits of strength, durability and reduced weight are helping redefine what mobility products can be. It’s proving that mobility aids don’t just need to be functional; they can be innovative, modern and stylish too.
“For me, products like this are helping challenge outdated perceptions and show that mobility can look and feel cool.”
Will Harrison, Founder and Mobility Expert at CareCo says, “The mobility industry can be misunderstood at times; however, at CareCo, we are a forward-thinking company and carbon-fibre products help showcase how we have more in common with elite sports and technology companies than people may realise. Carbon-fibre is futureproof, stronger than steel, lightweight and offers an aesthetically pleasing product for a range of our customers.
“Technology is at the forefront of what we are trying to achieve which is to offer the best possible mobility products at the best possible price. We want mobility to be accessible for everyone.”
The Carbon Mobility event will run from the start of July across CareCo’s nationwide network of showrooms and digital platforms.
CareCo recently opened its 40th UK showroom in Stockton-on-Tees as part of its continued UK growth.
